STAN CATHERWOOD
Our dear friend Stan Catherwood passed away last 27th October 2008 in Springfield, Illinois.
He was a very nice, sweet and great man.
We spent some good time together last June for the USS Tide reunion in Vancouver.
He did a lot for his country and of course for France liberation during the World War II.
And he did something very special nobody and especially his shipmates couldn’t forget: he secured the Flag when his ship hit a mine and sunk in front of Normandy beaches. Thank you Stan.
Even if it was more and more difficult for him to go each year to the USS Tide reunion, he wouldn’t miss any.
He was 87 years old and he always kept his so great smile with so cheerful eyes.
Family, friends, shipmates and of course me, will miss Stan very much, you can believe it.
I remember very well when I personally met Stan Catherwood with Wilma, his wife, in 1996, for my first USS Tide reunion in Annapolis, Maryland.
They were both so sweet!
At this time I had so very bad English, and it was very difficult for me to speak with everybody at the reunion.
Stan and Wilma stood out me both by their gentleness.
They have a special place in my heart.
I would never forget you Stan! I love you.
